2nd South Carolina Regiment order book, 1777-ca. 1929.

Collection contains the order book (1777 Jan. 15-Nov. 22) of the 2nd South Carolina Continental Regiment of Foot (commanded by Colonel Motte), an alphabetical list of soldiers serving in the Regiment compiled from the order book by John Bennett (1915), another list (which may have been compiled by DuBose Heyward before 1930) of soldiers names which are contained in the order book, and a partial typewritten transcript of the order book. "Orderly book" may have been kept by or for Isaac DuBose or Samuel DuBose. The volume includes orders, lists of the names of soldiers, and information about courts martial and other matters.

The 2nd South Carolina was organized in summer 1775 at Charleston to consist of ten companies from eastern South Carolina. On Nov. 4, 1775, it was adopted into the Continental Army and assigned to Southern Department.
